Rutland COVID-19 vaccination programme update 17/2/21

Rutland Health Primary Care Network (PCN) is in the process of offering vaccination appointments to priority group 5 (people aged 65 to 69), and priority group 6 (vulnerable patients and carers).

The appointments are for next week – vaccine has not been received this week from NHS England.

Priority group 6 is large in Rutland (over 2000 patients) and it will take 2 to 3 weeks to complete the group, depending on the supply of vaccines, which cannot be predicted. Please don’t worry if you have not been invited yet. A list of conditions that classify people as ‘vulnerable’ and in priority group 6 is available on the PCN website.

Carers – if you have not let your GP practice know that you are a carer, please do so by emailing them.

National vaccination programme

Alongside the local programme, there are 2 others ways in which you can receive your vaccinations:

  1. The NHS is sending out letters currently to people in priority group 5 (aged 65-69) with invitations to a mass vaccination centres using the national booking service. The national booking service is accessed via a website link provided in the letter, or by calling 119, and does not allow you to book at the Rutland Vaccination Centre.
  2. Over 65’s can also book a vaccination at a Leicester Hospital hub – the Royal Infirmary, Glenfield and General hospitals are all taking part. The booking process and links are available here

If you have already booked an appointment at a mass vaccination centre (such as the Peepul Centre in Leicester) or a hospital hub, and receive a text message invitation from the PCN, please reply to the text to let the PCN know that you have an appointment elsewhere. The PCN can then remove you quickly from the booking list. You can do this simply by clicking on the link, entering your date of birth and selecting the “I’ve booked elsewhere” option as the reason for opting out. See the PCN website for more help with this.

People who are housebound

Home visits to vaccinate housebound patients are continuing and 130 people have received their first vaccination at home so far.

Over 70 or shielding and not yet had your first vaccination?

If you are aged over 70 or clinically extremely vulnerable with a shielding letter, and have not yet received your first vaccination, please contact the PCN by emailing rutlandhealth.cvp@nhs.net. The PCN will respond within 72 hours.

Second Vaccination

For people who received their first vaccination at the Rutland Covid Vaccination Centre, the second vaccination programme will start on the 10th March. NHS England will supply the vaccine in the same quantities as the first round which started on December 21st, and you will be asked to attend the same vaccination centre at which you your received your first jab. Invitations to book appointments will begin as soon as the delivery time is confirmed.

Declining the offer of vaccination

If you have told Rutland Health PCN that you do not wish to receive a Covid-19 vaccination you will receive a letter from them confirming that you have declined. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself, your family and your community from serious COVID-19 infection. If you have declined but later decide that you would like to have the vaccine please let your GP practice know or email rutlandhealth.cvp@nhs.net so that an appointment can be arranged.

Have you had your jab yet?

Please take 2 minutes to share your experience of receiving your COVID-19 jab. We would like to know where you went for your vaccination, how you found the invitation and booking process, experience at the vaccination centre and anything else you wish to share about the vaccination programme.
