Melodies for mums

With few face-to-face mum and baby groups running right now, and women more isolated than ever due to COVID-19, there has never been a better time to offer support for new mums.
Melodies for mums

Breathe Arts Health Research are offering a FREE 6-week online nationwide programme designed to support new mums experiencing stress, anxiety, social isolation, or who have, or are at risk of, postnatal depression. You can experience the joy of singing and music-making to help improve your health and wellbeing.

Breathe are currently accepting registrations for the Melodies for mums programme starting 17th February, ending 24th March. There are two options for sessions you can apply to join:

  • Wednesday morning between 10:00 and 11:00 or
  • Wednesday morning between 11:15 and 12:15

What happens in the sessions?

A trained musician leads the weekly session, with around 10-12 women in each session. Sessions typically consist of learning a variety of culturally diverse songs focusing on the women. They encourage bonding with the baby, and engagement with each other.

Participation is free for people from every community. Music and singing also provide a culturally inclusive environment for mothers for whom English is not their first language. The weekly meetings allow mums to establish a structure to their week and have a positive experience to focus on.
