COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics for boosters and third doses – update 05/11/21

There has been confusion about COVID-19 boosters, with conflicting messages from local and national media as guidance has changed.
Plan are changing frequently, and this is the best information we have at the moment and is subject to change..

COVID-19 Booster

This is a single dose, given to people over 50 years old, health and care staff, and people with underlying health conditions after 6 months has elapsed since their second jab. If you have received a text or a letter inviting you to book , use the national online booking service or call 119.

However, you now do not need to wait to be invited by text message or letter and can have a booster from 190 days (6 months and one week) after your second dose. Again you can book a booster at participating sites via the national online booking service or calling 119.

As well as pre-booked appointments, some walk-in sites can offer a booster without an appointment.

To find out which vaccination sites local to you offer a walk-in booster, visit the walk-in locator website .

Locally at the moment, adults can obtain a walk-in booster at the Late Night Pharmacy in Oakham High Street – see the walk-in locator for clinic opening times.

Adults can get a booster jab at the Oakham Vaccination Centre at the Enterprise Park, but our understanding is that you must book an appointment for one of the clinics that run every Monday, Friday and Saturday from 9.30am to 4pm.

Third dose for people who are immuno-suppressed

This third dose (not to be confused with a booster) is for people who are at increased risk of complications of COVID-19 due to immunosuppression. If you are in this group you will receive a text message or letter from NHS England. At the moment the national booking system doesn’t allow booking for third doses. If you have received a letter or text message you can walk into the vaccination centre at Oakham Enterprise Park on the days that clinics are running (Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays 9.30am to 4pm) taking the message or letter with you.
