Our progress on the consultation for acute and maternity services at Leicester hospitals

Our work on the consultation for acute and maternity services at Leicester hospitals is progressing on two main fronts.
proposed hospital transformation

The public are being consulted about proposals to spend £450 million to transform hospital and maternity services at Leicester's hospitals and we urge Rutland people to have their say. Healthwatch Rutland are continuing to seek people's views.

First, our public engagement activities aim to ensure that as many people in Rutland as possible understand the proposed changes and have their views heard. Engagement activities will include informal virtual café “conversations” with community and support groups as well as listening to the public at a virtual public meeting and encouraging everyone to complete a consultation questionnaire.

Our virtual public meeting will be held on 28 October at 7pm and you are invited to join us for a simple overview of the proposals, followed by an open discussion of your views on how the changes would affect you, your family and your community.

Second, the Healthwatch Rutland (HWR) Board is preparing its own response to the consultation. To ensure that we fully understand the detailed thinking that underpins the proposals, we have read through the Pre-consultation Business Case (PCBC) in detail. Several questions have arisen from this reading to which the HWR Board has sought answers and clarification from the Chief Executive of Leicester Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG).

This objective look at how the proposals most directly affect people in Rutland has been shared with local stakeholders and you can read the paper in full.

The questions are based on the content of the PCBC, supported by extracts from the document text and tables, and we await a response to the questions.

Whilst we strongly encourage everyone in Rutland to fill in a consultation questionnaire we would also like to hear from you. Please join our public meeting on the 28 October and if not, make use of the comment form below to let us know your concerns and thoughts about the proposed changes, or contact us by phone or email.

“This project involves a large investment and a big reorganisation of health care. It is really essential that people in Rutland give voice to their opinions to ensure we get the services we all want and need. Please get involved as now is the best time to voice your hopes, expectations and concerns.”

Janet Underwood, Chair of Healthwatch Rutland

Local Clinical Commissioning Groups are running events over the coming weeks to explain the plans and allow you to ask questions about the proposed changes; visit here sign up.
