About this event

Around 6.5 million people in the UK are carers, looking after a parent, partner, child or friend. A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health problem or who needs extra help as they grow older.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and their communities.

The theme of this year’s Carers week is supporting carers to be Healthy and Connected.

Jacqui Darlington, our Healthwatch Rutland board member and Carers UK Local Awareness Volunteer has been busy all week, out and about visiting the Empingham, Oakham, Market Overton & Somerby Surgeries delivering the latest Carers UK booklets. Today Jacqui is at Leicester County Hall for the launch of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Carers Strategy, and Thursday will be at the launch of Rutland County Council’s Carers Hub 10 – 12 at Catmose.
