The Leicester Hop Service

Find out about Leicester's new, free bus service

You may have noticed, or heard a new green bus travelling around Leicester City recently. This will be the Leicester Hop. A fully electric, free bus service which aims to provide accessible, sustainable links to key destinations across the City Centre.

Launched in April 2023 as part of an 18 month trial, there are three buses which operate every ten minutes Monday to Saturday (excluding bank holidays) from 8am to 6pm.

The buses travel through the pedestrian priority areas during which time the driver switches on a warning ‘ribbet’ sound and a bell every few seconds to make up for the silent engines.

As well as dedicated wheelchair space on board, the buses have next stop audio and visual announcements to improve accessibility. There are real time information displays, free wifi and USB charging points.

The service operates in a loop which serves the Haymarket Bus Station, Highcross, Jubilee Square, Leicester Royal Infirmary, Railway Station and the Market.
